AYSO REGION 180 – Santa Ynez Valley
Post Season All Star Information
Welcome to the AYSO Region 180 Post Season/Tournament Team Season. We are pleased to consider your child for Post Season/Tournament Team play. As you may already know, participation is an honor and privilege, not an entitlement. Along with the honor and privilege of Tournament Team selection come responsibilities and commitments. In order to enable you to make a fully informed decision to proceed, this
document provides some basic information about Post Season play and describes the nature of the commitments that are expected from the players and their families.
For more information you may contact your Division Coordinator.
TOURNAMENT TEAM OVERVIEW:
The All Star teams are selected by the All Star Coaches in November and usually begin practice in December. The Area Q All Star Tournaments are typically held every weekend from January thru February; all players on the team must make a commitment to be available for Area Q All Star tournaments. The Coaches, with input from the parents, will decide how many other tournaments to compete in outside of Area Q. Each
tournament, with the exception of our own local tournament, Winter Classic, requires a registration fee and referee deposit. The average number of tournaments per team is 6-8, and the average fee is roughly $60-80 per player per tournament. If the team’s parents do not fulfill its Referee requirement, then there is an added fee. All fees are paid by the parents of the players (as are the cost of the uniforms) usually in a lump sum
prior to the start of tournament play as a deposit into a AYSO Region 180 sub-account for the team. If there are funds remaining in the sub account after the final tournament, a refund is given to the team. Region 180 is not able to offer scholarships for All Star play.
Any food and travel expenses are paid by the participating players, as are the costs of any optional equipment such as backpacks, jackets, or sweatshirts. Many teams will decide to travel to a tournament far enough away (eg, San Luis Obispo) to require overnight accommodations. In such circumstances, the financial strain is often softened by pooled rides or parental chaperoning so that not all parents need to travel.
Tournaments typically involve 2 games on Saturday and 1-2 games on Sunday. The great majority is within an hour’s drive, allowing for Saturday and Sunday morning travel, though often with very early departures.
PLAYER SELECTION:
Any AYSO player (10U and up) who played at least half their team’s core season games is eligible. EVERY PLAYER interested in Post Season play, must attend try out, date/time will be set by All Star Coaches shortly after core season. All Star teams are chosen by the Coaches, at Selection Meeting to be held in November. Coaches will observe interested players and may speak with the parent(s) but there may not be any
commitment made, prior to the Selection meeting. Parents should not approach the All Star Coaches to discuss the interest of their child in participating. If your child is selected you will be contacted by the Coach shortly after the Selection Meeting. Selected players are not required to participate in off season program in order to play during core season.
PLAYER AND PARENT COMMITMENT:
In exchange for the honor and privilege of representing Region 180, each player and their parents/guardians are expected to make the following commitments:
1. To make AYSO soccer your first priority over other sports and other ongoing weekend/after-school activities from the beginning to the end of Post Season play.
2. To attend in a timely manner team practices (usually 2/week) and tournaments.
3. To make the required deposit of the estimated tournament fee expenses for the entire post season, prior to the start of tournament play.
4. To volunteer to referee in tournaments in the event that you (the parent) are certified and qualified referees.
5. To otherwise volunteer as requested by the coach in support of the team players, coach, and Region 180.
6. To volunteer as Field Monitors, at the Volunteer Tent, or otherwise as needed, at the Winter Classic Tournament in January.
7. To always conduct yourself appropriately at all tournaments, with the knowledge that you are representing not only your team but also Region 180. This conduct includes, but is not limited to, being courteous to the referees at all times; being courteous to the opposing teams’ players, coaches, and parents at all times; complying with all tournament rules.
8. To comply with the game related directions of the team’s Coach, including but not limited to, what position(s) to play, what quarters to play, and what strategies and tactics to use.
9. To be respectful of the Coach’s decisions regarding positions, strategy, practice, and other aspects of Post Season play.
